How to reduce space after headings in LaTeX (KOMA-Script)

LaTeX is still the smallest evil when it comes to writing scientific papers. Over the years while working on various academic papers, I have developed an intense love-hate relationship with this tool. Although the quality and beauty of the resulting documents is impressive, LaTeX also holds an astonishing complexity.

Since I am always annoyed about the time-consuming research that is necessary to adjust simple things, here is a snippet how to decrease the space after a specific heading in KOMA script. The runin option must be set to false to prevent the next paragraph from being set to the same line as the heading.

\RedeclareSectionCommand[
  runin=false,
  afterskip=-.25\baselineskip
]{subsubsection}
